The following volunteer/internship opportunities involve working in the shelter directly with residents:
Women's Advocate Volunteer/Intern
Women’s Advocate Volunteers and Interns assist staff in providing support to women by:
-
responding to "request for service" calls
-
checking women into and out of shelter
-
providing one-on-one support to women
-
helping facilitate women's support groups
-
safety planning
Since our agency is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, scheduling for this position is flexible and can be worked out to fit your personal schedule.
Children's Advocate Volunteer/Intern
Children's Advocate Volunteers and Interns:
-
facilitate children’s support groups
-
provide childcare during women’s support groups
-
work one-on-one with kids in our "match" program
Transportation Volunteers
Transport women or children to and from appointments, groups, or activities. Transportation is one of the biggest and most common needs Friendship Home struggles to provide, as most of the women do not have their own transportation. This is especially true on Monday-Thursday nights, when we offer support groups for both current and past residents.
Facilities Volunteers
There are a lot of things that go into making a house a home. Assistance
is needed to keep Friendship Home safe, sound, and well supplied.
Facility Volunteers aid in:

yard work

minor shelter repairs

picking up and sorting donations

grocery shopping
The following volunteer opportunity involves working with staff and the community to support battered women and their children:
Administrative and Development Volunteer/Intern
This opportunity involves:

helping to organize and staff Friendship Home events

assisting with mailings
-
working with the Community Education Team
-
creating promotional materials
-
office tasks
