An
internship at Friendship Home is a powerful opportunity for students
interested in learning more about advocating for victims of intimate
partner violence. For
most internship positions, we provide flexible scheduling, scholarships,
and a chance to work directly with/or on behalf of women and children
who have experienced domestic violence. One of today's most serious
and prevalent social problems. Because we are committed to creating
valuable learning experiences, we work with students to identify
their educational goals, strengths, passions and skills to design
a unique internship meaningful to them.
Direct-service interns choose to work directly
with the women and
children in shelter. The internship
is a great opportunity for psychology and sociology majors as well
as for students interested in criminal justice, education, healthcare,
and communications. Past interns have co-facilitated support
groups, taken crisis calls, provided referrals, assisted in developing
safety plans, and provided advocacy to children in shelter. We have several openings each semester (and during the summer) for
students interested in being Women's Advocate interns or Children's Advocate interns. Direct-service Interns receive a $100 scholarship
for each 100 hours of service they provide.
Administration and Development internships are
perfect for students who want to gain experience in nonprofit
management, human
resources, volunteer
management, fundraising, database management or community education. Friendship Home
interns have an opportunity to witness and participate in the operations
of one of Nebraska’s
most successful nonprofit agencies.
